Bertrand Bisimwa, the Vice-President of the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), has issued a stark warning to President Félix Tshisekedi regarding how his group will handle future interactions. Speaking in Goma on Tuesday after meeting with the head of MONUSCO, Bisimwa made it clear that the FRN refuses to be manipulated by MONUSCO acting on behalf of the president anymore. Despite this hardening stance, he insisted the group remains fully dedicated to the ceasefire and has consistently honored every commitment since signing them. The context for this shift involves recent attacks by government forces across Masisi, Minembwe, and the High Plateaus which have pushed the group to its limit. Bisimwa stated that facing aggression from the government camp, they cannot allow their soldiers or populations to be killed by Kinshasa or massacred without a response. He emphasized that while they will respond appropriately, the priority is ensuring any action taken protects their people and guarantees peace rather than escalating unnecessarily.
