    Vedat Muriqi childhood story

Vedat Muriqi: "After my father died, I never became a child again." "No human should have had to see what I saw during those years. One day soldiers came and told us they were going to bomb our house, so we had to flee from our home. After we migrated, 50-55 people began living in a single room. Before that, for two days we slept in the basement on top of bottles. When I asked my mother for something to eat, she cried because she had nothing to give. She tricked us with onion bread; when we got hungry, it was onions again, bread again... Now they were crying out of desperation and sending tea. Each family, regardless of how many members they had, was given certain provisions. Our family drank their tea without sugar and gave the sugar to us. At 9 years old, I did whatever work there was at my uncles' restaurant. I was the only person who could work to support my mother and my sister because my father had lost his life in the war. After my father died, I never became a child again, never... When my friends called me to play, I would say 'I can't come, I need to work,' and I couldn't go to them."
