    Volkswagen Osnabrück Iron Dome deal

A potential workaround is emerging for a deal that has hit a wall: Qatar, a major Volkswagen shareholder, reportedly opposes collaboration with Israeli defense contractor Rafael. The plan involves the German state of Lower Saxony acquiring part of the VW facility in Osnabrück to establish a separate entity where Rafael can operate the plant and manufacture support systems for the Iron Dome defense system. This structure would allow the Israeli firm to utilize the site while Volkswagen technically avoids direct involvement or oversight of operations within its own grounds. The German state may contribute approximately €200 million to this initiative, which could be finalized by September. It effectively sidesteps the shareholder's stance by keeping the carmaker at arm's length from the defense manufacturing contract. #Volkswagen
