Shakira Madrid residency opening weekend

Twelve nights is what Shakira has ahead of her in Madrid, and the first weekend of that residency just wrapped with three shows from September 18 to 20. Tens of thousands packed Estadio Shakira for each one, a venue that only exists because this run needed it, built to fit more than 55,000 people a night. That opening weekend also served as the launch of the European leg of the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, so the Madrid dates are carrying a lot of weight for the whole stretch. What sets this residency apart from a normal tour stop is ES LATINA, a Shakira project that goes past the concerts themselves. It pulls in food, film, visual art, writing, style and live cultural gatherings, all built around celebrating Latin culture. With that in place, Madrid turns into a real gathering spot for Latin American culture while the shows are running, which lines up with what Shakira set out to do for this leg. The whole thing closes out on October 11.
