Chad Gable on El Grande Americano Match of the Year

When the fans started calling the El Grande Americano Mask vs. Mask match their Match of the Year, Chad Gable didn't just take it as a win but described that kind of fan praise as a high compliment while immediately clarifying his actual priorities lie in the process and personal growth rather than specific accomplishments or trophies. He noted that compliments from peers were particularly meaningful because they told him not how great the match was technically, but the way it made them feel that reminded them what they loved about wrestling growing up, making them feel the exact same way they did when they were kids. That emotional connection is the highest compliment to him because it aligns with what he's seeking in wrestling now: to feel the way he felt when he watched Macho Man and Warrior at WrestleMania six with all the drama with Miss Elizabeth and all these things, which is the kind of stuff that fueled him to want to do this in the first place. So if he can give other people that specific emotional experience back then, then he feels like he's really doing his job and fulfilling exactly what he set out to achieve in this industry.
