Stone Forest Shilin Yunnan

There is a forest in China made entirely of stone. The Stone Forest, also known as Shilin, lies in Yunnan province. It forms an extraordinary landscape where thousands of towering limestone pillars rise from the ground like a petrified woodland. Some of these pillars reach heights of 20 to 50 meters. Approximately 270 million years ago, the area was covered by an ocean. Over time, the movement of tectonic plates caused the seabed to rise. The pillars visible today took shape through erosion by rainwater and wind.
