She'd just gotten married, when her husband's older sister started picking on her, at dinner. Jingzi said it straight in front of everyone, her brother only got married, because their mother needed help around the house. Now she was back and planned to stay, she'd handle everything herself. Suzu wasn't needed anymore, she could leave, she said it like she owned the place. Her husband Sean heard every word, but didn't push back, he just quietly told her to stop. The mother-in-law turned to Suzu, you haven't visited your parents in a while, why not go stay with them for a few days. The father-in-law nodded. Suzu could use the brake. Jingzi quickly said that wasn't what she meant. Before she could finish, Suzu jumped in. Wait, I can really go home? She thanked Jingzi for being so thoughtful. She lowered her head and kept eating. Suzu knew what Jingzi was doing. She just played dumb, to hide how humiliated she felt. That night, Sean told her not to force herself. He'd go talk to his sister. Suzu didn't say a word. She had no idea how to deal with it. The next day, Suzu went back to her parents' home. She walked in and crashed. Nothing her mother did could wake her up. Then Suzu rolled over. Her mother froze. There was a bald patch on her daughter's head. It broke her heart. She finally woke Suzu up. The moment Suzu saw her mother, she lit up with a smile. For the first time in a long time, she could just be somebody's little girl again. At dinner, Suzu told the family what happened. Sumi asked why she just took it. Suzu said Jingzi wasn't a bad person. She'd had a hard life too. Her husband had passed away. She didn't get along with her mother-in-law. Maybe with Suzu gone, things would be easier for Jingzi. Suzu smiled and said not really Sumi didn't buy it She finally said it out loud Suzu reached up to check The moment her fingers found the spot, she completely fell apart. The next morning, everyone headed off to work. Her father handed her some money. Go buy something nice. Suzu stopped at a stationary store for drawing paper. She grabbed a box of milk candies nearby. Then she went to a beach she once loved. She popped a candy in her mouth. She let the sweetness wash over her. She stared at the candy in her hand. She drifted back in time. Then it hit her. The little boy taken with her as a child was Sean. That was her husband. Suzu took off running. She just needed to see him. She left a note for her family. She rushed straight back, but when she reached the door, she spotted Jinzy and ducked out of sight. In the end she couldn't go in. She went to wait for Sean, on the road he always took home. When Sean saw her, he looked surprised and walked over fast. Thank God, you're back, I was just about to come get you. The time apart made them realize, how much they meant to each other. Sean reached out to touch her head. Suzu flinched back hard, she knew he'd seen the bald spot. But Sean just said, if you keep stressing about it, it's only going to get worse. Those words took a weight off her shoulders, and so Suzu came home, life picked right back up She and Shawn only grew closer, Jingzi could only watch, frustrated and powerless
