T-Pain catalog sale explanation

    por Can: T-Pain

T-Pain sold his catalog for $100 million last year and he’s not holding back on why. Streaming flipped the whole game without artists having a say, his music went from a dollar a song to 0.003 cents per play. He wasn't about to leave his kids' future up to an industry that never asked what he wanted to charge. He knew exactly how much he needed to live out the rest of his life, got it, and was content. No looking back.

Let me tell you something. In 2015, streaming started. Nobody told us or nobody came to any artist and said, hey, we're about to put your streaming platform. How much do you want your music to cost? All of our music went from a dollar a song to 0.003 cents per play. Imagine that that gets lower and lower as life goes on. My catalog is worth less and without anybody asking me if that's what I want to charge for my music. You think I want to leave that to my kid? You think I'm leaving my kids life and their future in the hands of the music industry. You got me fucked up. I know exactly what I want. I know exactly how much I want right now to live out the rest of my life. And if I get that and I'm satisfied with that and I'm content, I'm not looking for more.
