Sobre este álbum
Ariana Grande's seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine, arrived on March 8, 2024, via Republic Records. The record draws its title and conceptual core from the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, in which a couple erases each other from their memories. Grande has described the album as a concept piece, presenting "different heightened pieces of the same story and experience," with lyrics that trace love, heartbreak, and the slow work of healing. Sessions ran from September to December 2023 across five studios: Jungle City in New York, MXM in Stockholm, Studio 112 in Jonstorp, Decoy in Suffolk, and House Mouse in Stockholm.
Musically, Eternal Sunshine blends pop and contemporary R&B with dance and house accents. The production leans into Y2K-era textures, pillowy synth beds, and occasional orchestral disco flourishes. Grande's vocal approach is notably more restrained than on earlier records; she pulls back on belting and whistle tones, letting the emotional weight of the lyrics sit at the front. For the first time in her career, she is credited as a producer on every track, working alongside executive producers Max Martin and Ilya Salmanzadeh, with additional production from David Park and Oscar Görres. Notably, longtime collaborators Tayla Parx and Victoria Monét are absent from the credits.
The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, becoming Grande's sixth chart-topper in the US and posting the largest sales week of any album in 2024 up to that point. It was certified Platinum by the RIAA in September 2024. Two singles, "yes, and?" and "we can't be friends (wait for your love)," both reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making Eternal Sunshine the only album of 2024 to yield multiple Hot 100 number-one hits. Critics were broadly favorable; Rolling Stone gave it five stars and called it an "instant classic."
