    Acerca de

The Utah Jazz started life in New Orleans as an expansion team in 1974, naming themselves after the city's famous music scene. Pete Maravich brought flash and scoring to the court, but the franchise struggled to find winning ways during those first five years. The move to Salt Lake City in 1979 kept the name despite the desert landscape and set the stage for a new identity.

Frank Layden turned the tide in the early 80s, leading the team to its first division title in 1984. That draft class included John Stockton, who arrived alongside Karl Malone the following year. Under Jerry Sloan, these two built a pick-and-roll machine that defined the 1990s. They pushed the Chicago Bulls to the limit in back-to-back Finals runs in 1997 and 1998 before falling short both times.

The modern era saw a shift after trading stars Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert in 2022. Coach Will Hardy now guides a roster focused on young development and defensive intensity. Recent preseason action highlighted rookie Darryn Peterson's immediate impact, even as the team navigates injuries like Jusuf Nurkic's foot issue.

    Historia

Pete Maravich led the franchise from its 1974 inception in New Orleans, where he averaged nearly 30 points per game but never secured a winning season. The team relocated to Utah in 1979, initially playing at the Salt Palace before moving to the Delta Center. Frank Layden won Coach of the Year in 1984, coinciding with the selection of John Stockton and the arrival of Karl Malone. Jerry Sloan took over coaching duties in 1988 and guided the duo to unprecedented consistency.

The 1990s marked the peak of the franchise's power. Stockton and Malone reached the NBA Finals in consecutive years, losing both series to Michael Jordan's Bulls. The team maintained a remarkable streak of 20 consecutive playoff appearances from 1986 to 2005. Following the departures of their legends, the Jazz rebuilt around Andrei Kirilenko and later Deron Williams, reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2007.

Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell restored the team to elite status, posting the best record in the league during the 2020-21 season. A major roster overhaul occurred in 2022 when both players were traded. Current head coach Will Hardy oversees a rebuilding effort centered on prospects like Keyonte George and Darryn Peterson while emphasizing defensive discipline.
